In 2016, according to the initiative of the Head of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) Egor Afanasyevich Borisov, the International Committee of the Games «Children of Asia» decided to hold the First Winter International Sports Games «Children of Asia».

The I International Sports Winter Games “Children of Asia” are held to popularize the ideas of the Olympic movement, develop youth sport and strengthen international sport cooperation, in accordance with the Concept of the Games, approved by the International Committee of the Games “Children of Asia”.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, the capital of the Sakhalin region, which will host the Games in 2019, was the main applicant for the first international winter Games "Children of Asia". A favorable climate, snowy and warm winter, transport accessibility of sports facilities, the availability of hotel infrastructure, as well as the availability of catering facilities - all of these factors have a great importance for games.

Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk meets all these requirements, where all the necessary conditions for sports, leisure and entertainment of young athletes are produced.

Like the summer Games “Children of Asia”, the first Winter Games will be held under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation, UNESCO and the International Olympic Committee, as well as with the full support of the Government of the Russian Federation, the Olympic Council of Asia, the Olympic Committee of Russia, the Ministry of Sports of Russia.

During the first Winter Games "Children of Asia" competitions in 8 spots are planned to be held:

biathlon;
mountain skiing;
ski race;
ski jumping;
snowboarding;
figure skating;
hockey;
short track.
